Cav 86 Food

Delicious dishes prepared by head chef Marcelo Oliveira make their way out of the kitchen to dazzle guests and add to the laidback atmosphere of CAV 86. The São Paulo native is keen on bringing his Brazilian influence into the kitchen paired with references from all over the world, including Portugal. Such is the case of the Cheese Bun with Roasted Peach Sweet & Sour; Mushroom Fritter with Sesame Aioli; Shrimp’ Moqueca’, Plantain and Cassava Chips, or the Fried Chicken Sandwich with Coleslaw, Cucumber and Honey & Mustard The dishes are served in small portions, the ideal size for a gastro wine bar – and the down-to-earth service allows for a full meal or a chinwag with a glass of Flui Pet Nat sparkling wine in hand and a few Potato Croquettes with Truffle Cheese Cream. However, even if decadence and desire seem to dominate the menu,

Cav 86 Vegetarian

CAV 86 shows that vegetarian dishes can awaken the most voracious appetites, such as the Barley, Mushroom and Chestnut or the Pumpkin, Chickpeas and Curry. As far as desserts are concerned, developed by Marcelo and pastry chef Vanessa Nemen, the priority is to make everything from scratch and use the creativity that “healthy” and vegan alternatives have brought to contemporary cuisine. The French toast with Hazelnut and Pumpkin Cream, the Pistache’ Paçoca’ and the Chocolate Cake with Malt Crumble and Stout Beer are proof of an indulgent end to a meal at CAV 86.

Cav 86 Wine

Wine is key in CAV 86, with a list dedicated to small, mostly organic, low-intervention Portuguese and international producers. Among the carefully handpicked options on the list are producers who have made a remarkable journey in the country and abroad, using artisanal, chemical-free and environmentally conscious methods. Olavo Silva Rosa, a seasoned sommelier with ten years of experience, is now part of the team as the new wine consultant, a powerful add-on to the already diversified wine concept at CAV 86. Since 2016, Olavo has been working with low-intervention and biodynamic wines, launched a new concept at Praça, in the up-and-coming neighbourhood of Beato, where he organised the wine cellar by soil. At CAV 86, Olavo ensures the quality and provenance of the wine list, providing his knowledge and experience for the selection process and excellent upkeep. The new wine list is, therefore, a concoction of unique and exclusive Portuguese and international natural wines developed by Olavo.

Cav 86 Art

Every month, CAV 86 organises artist residencies, in which the walls are taken over by young talents connected to urban art, be it photography, painting or sculpture, curated by head waiter Vanessa Ribeiro, a photography student, and Marcelo Oliveira, the chef himself, who was a musician before pursuing a career in the kitchen, a testament to his enthusiasm for art. The choice of artists follows no rules but aims to celebrate art in all its glory. Artists such as Rodolfo Contarato (music and contemporary art), Antoine Sarnago (visual and street art), Marcelo Fidélis (ceramics, painting, sculpture, embroidery and skateboard customisation), Maria Papa (contemporary art) and António Gouveia stand amongst the names that have been featured on CAV 86’s walls, and many more will come.

Cav 86 Music

Music is one of the most essential aspects of CAV 86, for which Harvest Cotton Tale has invited a legendary name in British soul and R’n’B.Jazzi Q has been passionate about music for as long as he can remember, having started a career as a DJ aged 14 at birthday parties and local events. His popularity won him a residency on Thursdays at Camis Nightclub in Hackney, East London. Among schoolmates were names later known as Jazzie B and Daddae Harvey. Together, they created the famous R’n’B collective of the 90s: SOUL II SOUL. They travelled the UK, playing the most prominent venues, until they found the parties that would catapult them to success close to home in central London: Sunday nights at the Africa Centre. Songs like “Feel Free” and “Fairplay” hit the charts worldwide, with invitations from all over the world to play at the best venues. Jazzy Q’s collaborations include legends like James Brown, Cheryl Lynn, the Jones Girls, Incognito and many more. He currently maintains his residency of over 15 years on Wednesdays on Colourful.com radio.
